Dear Colleagues, Members, Friends and Supporters,

Please accept my apologies for a long period of silence from the Institute.

I am writing to inform you that the Institute for Nonviolent Economics is in a period of hiatus. The structure of the Institute remains–a relationship with its fiscal sponsor, the New Mexico Community Foundation, and the web-site, which I hope will continue to serve as a resource to people with its links, articles and occasional new postings. I will continue to pursue small contracts, but to a much lesser degree.

My decision is based on a number of reasons. The primary one is that the current funding climate is extremely challenging and this has made the work difficult to sustain.

The dark times in which we find ourselves make work for fundamental change not only more essential, but also necessitate deepening the foundations for the long haul. Indeed, I don’t see this work, which I know is my life work, as ending, but as changing form. Inherent in the vision of the Institute is that structures should serve life, rather than the other way around. For the time being, it has become clear that the structure of the Institute needs to go into hibernation in order to serve my life and work.

I feel so grateful to so many of you for your involvement, your support and your encouraging words, often celebrating the vision of the Institute’s work. I hold these in my heart as my life work changes form. I appreciate so much all of your many efforts to fundamentally transform our society.

And please, if you would like to receive articles or news, such as the enclosed, please send me your email address if you are not already on my list.

Sincerely,

Sarah Laeng-Gilliatt
